While Hegseth prays for “overwhelming violence of action,” Leo XIV stands on the balcony of St. Peter’s and says: God is not listening to you.
I very rarely — and by ‘very rarely,’ I mean almost never — quote the Pope or the purveyor of any religion, major or otherwise. In fact, I consider our primary decivilizing force to far less be bombs, nukes, war or violent far right demagogues though all certainly play their role.

While Hegseth prays for “overwhelming violence of action,” Leo XIV stands on the balcony of St. Peter’s and says: God is not listening to you.

Instead, I consider our deepest and most decivilizing power to be organized fundamentalist religion — each and every one of them. So, though I rarely quote the Pope, I still thought it worth taking note when he pointedly said that ‘God “does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war.”
This is as the wanna be Christian crusader, Pete Hegseth, continues to connect a messianic and grotesque holy war construct to Trump’s already reckless War of Epstein Choice in Iran which is, as per my own knowledge of Christianity, directly antithetical to its core teachings.
For the record, I have no intent to deny or offend those whose faith is personal and honest but to target the many others who wield their own variants as a weapon and propaganda tool. If either Hegseth or Trump had bothered to read the memo; even the most basic intelligence reports on Iran going back decades, they’d realize that ‘Holy War’ was the foundation of Iran’s current Islamofascist regime. It is what Iran’s theocrats do best and feeding into this perverted framework is a really bad idea.
On March 26th, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gathered Pentagon staff for a monthly Christian worship service and led them in what he described as a pre-mission prayer used by military chaplains. He prayed aloud for “overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy,” invoking Jesus Christ’s name to sanctify it. The service was livestreamed.
The Pope’s Palm Sunday response was, by any reading, a direct reply
And if utter insanity wasn’t enough for the alpha (white) wanna be christian crusader, Peth Hegseth, he made his Pentagon service only for Protestants
At the Pentagon Chapel — a 24-hour interfaith space paid for by American taxpayers — the Department of Defense sent a memo to over 3,500 employees. It read: “Just a friendly reminder: There will be a Protestant Service (No Catholic Mass) for Good Friday today at the Pentagon Chapel.”
A Pentagon spokesperson confirmed there would be no separate Catholic service. No Catholic liturgy of any kind — the first time in recent memory, according to a Pentagon employee who has worked there since 1980.
This should drive a massive class action lawsuit. Before I get into my full rant, however, I want to point out as clearly as possible that this is a flagrant violation of the First Amendment and, in particular, the Establishment Clause which
...prohibits the government from making any law “respecting an establishment of religion.” This clause not only forbids the government from establishing an official religion, but also prohibits government actions that unduly favor one religion over another. It also prohibits the government from unduly preferring religion over non-religion, or non-religion over religion.
Establishment Clause
The Constitution also makes very clear that ‘religious freedom’ does NOT, remotely, offer any kind of right to impose one’s preferred religion or the beliefs of that religion on ANYONE else. Instead, the Constitution’s promise of Religious Freedom means the right of every citizen to believe — or not believe — in the religion of their choice without the imposition of a state sponsored faith.
But the near psychopathic, Fox News pretty boy and Christian (white) Supremacist, Pete Kegseth, and the Trump Administration seem to be pushing a new found religious fervor. ‘Pastor’ and Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s twitter account eon Sunday posted the so called three crosses, or crucifixes, at Calvary which were supposedly used to crucify the pseudo historical figure of ‘Jesus Christ.’ To have this on an official government website is, to say the least, a problem and concern.
The life long hedonist, malignant narcissist, pedophile, criminal felon, adjudicated sex offender and deeply dementia addled, Trump, signed off on his violent threat that Iran must open the Strait Of Hormuz in 48 hours with ‘Glory be to GOD.’
Somehow, I kinda doubt Trump wrote something so nonsensical but that it was either written for him or he was playing off his disturbed Secretary of Defense who may ultimately want to resume the Crusades for control of Jerusalem.
For now, both are distracted by an insane, criminal war of Epstein choice against Iran for which Trump is losing interest - and losing - while becoming more violent as a result and ready to push flagrant war crimes against Iran. That is the same Iran who, despite, having their Air Force and air defenses supposedly ‘obliterated,’ have managed to shoot down at least two US fighter jets just over the past several days.
But my point is not specifically about the deeply decivilizing aspects of organized religion. That is for another blog. I am pleased, however, for Pope Leo’s very strong stance towards Trump Administration rhetoric when he said that ‘God “does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war.’ This following a Trump Administration who is, literally, now trying to push Trump’s War of Epstein Choice in Iran in messianic and apocalyptic holy war terms.
US troops were told war on Iran was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’, watchdog alleges
US military commanders have been invoking extremist Christian rhetoric about biblical “end times” to justify involvement in the Iran war to troops, according to complaints made to a watchdog group.
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) says it has received more than 200 complaints from service members across all branches of the armed forces, including the marines, air force and space force
As an aside, I hope folks will considering making a donation to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.
Hegseth’s christian crusade is utter insanity. It is not only an egregious violation of our Constitution but a framework of self annihilation while increasing the rush to America’s Decline.
And it doesn’t ‘underscore tensions,’ as identified by Bezos’ Washington Post, over Iran’s perfectly predictable closure of the Strait of Hormuz. What it ‘underscores’ is the fact that Trump is in way over his head, has NO idea what he’s doing, is cognitively deteriorating, has little regard for the US military and has NO plan or coherent objective for closure in Iran.
As pointed out by others, Trump had a clear plan for getting out of Vietnam but has nothing of the sort with regards to his Iran war of Epstein choice. This also represents Trump’s not only lifelong inability to learn from experience, but his tendency to meet his own failure with a massive escalation of that failure.
But, though related, this isn’t really on what I wanted to focus either!
My point is that Trump and Hegseth should have read intelligence reports. They should have read and become far more familiar with the history of modern Iran and, in particular, it’s own psychopathic Islamofascist regime. Hegseth should have read for comprehension about what motivates and drives Iran’s Islamofascist theocratic regime.
In two words, it is Hegseth’s ‘Holy War’ to which the Iranian regime has far more experience and persistence than the Pedophile-in-Chief and his crusading Fox News pretty boy, Pete Hegseth. Just as Netanyahu fell headfirst into Hamas’s trap, Trump, Hegseth and their clan have fallen directly into Iran’s.

As US ground forces deploy to the Middle East, it is imperative to understand that – despite a month of widespread US-Israeli bombing, damaged infrastructure, internal fractures and decimated leadership – the IRGC will likely resist any invasion of Iranian territory with tenacity. Its history demonstrates why.
Through its regional proxies, the IRGC also has extensive experience of protracted wars of attrition against the US and Israel.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is extremely powerful and is Iran’s primary military, political, and economic institution. Answering directly to the Supreme Leader, it controls close to 200,000 active personnel, its elite Quds Force and a massive regional proxy network (which includes Hamas and Hezbollah). The IRCG is also deeply embedded into Iran’s economy and corporate structure generating massive profits as a result. It will not let all that go easily.
The IRCG is battle hardened and combat ready with memory of it’s extremely brutal 8 year war against Iraq from 1980 to 1988 during which Iran lost at least a quarter of a million fighters only to end in a stalemate with Iraq. The IRCG will not — ever surrender — but will fight to the death. It is Iran’s own original ‘deep state.’ The IRCG are functionally heavily indoctrinated to despise the West, Jews, Israel and Christians.
Next is the Basij, a branch of the IRCG created in 1979. It is a particularly viscious volunteer paramilitary organization with about 500,000 members and, like the IRCG, devoted to the death to protect the Iranian regime. The Basij’s primary purpose is to suppress domestic opposition, acts as ‘morality police,’ law enforcement and internal security.
It was likely the Basij who were most responsible for murdering the thousands, and maybe tens of thousands, of Iranians who were increasing their active opposition to Iran’s violent theocrats over the past couple of months. And a great many of those Iranians fired on but not killed suffered horrific targeted injuries to their eyes
Together, the IRCG and Basij have numbers close to three quarters of a million well trained men under arms with most obsessively loyal and devoted to Iran’s Islamofascist regime. Wars of attrition are what they do best and a ground attack by the US would — lose — while only increasing the carnage, the death and the obliteration of the global economic disorder.
The US military would also likely suffer exponentially large losses if it went into Iran on the ground. But such an outcome does not appear to be a particular concern for either Trump or his ‘warrior for Christ’, Pete Hegseth. If either had read the memo, they’d know that the IRCG is ready and waiting...
Trump underestimated Iran’s resilience. Now there is only one way out of the war
When US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu started this war a month ago, they didn’t have a clear understanding of the nature of the Iranian regime and its defensive capability.
They didn’t expect Tehran to counter their offensives with an unprecedented level of preparedness, striking US bases across the Persian Gulf and hitting Israel hard.
Iran’s system of authority, governance and security was structured to withstand the loss of its leaders and commanders. The regime had shown this in the 1980s in the face of stiff internal opposition, the eight-year war with Iraq, US efforts to contain it and regional hostility.
The Islamic government has also managed to survive despite its theocratic impositions, frequent public uprisings and domestic and foreign policy shortfalls.
The only way to end Trump’s war of Epstein Choice with Iran will be negotiations in that there is not and will not be a military solution. TACO Trump’s profane and insane threats are more likely to super charge rather than intimidate either the IRCG or the Basij. As a result,
Trump may eventually settle for a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and a potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, given the costs of the war and his falling poll numbers in a year of mid-term elections.
When asked about assistance being given to Iran by China and Russia with regards to better identifying US military targets, Hegseth said that “We know exactly what they’re doing.”
Somehow, I find that unlikely. If Hegseth knows ‘exactly’ what Russia and China are doing while letting it continue, the word ‘treason’ may well be considered. Trump hasn’t a clue and Hegseth is pursuing a white supremacist ‘christian crusader’ wet dream. Neither one belong in the American government and both must be held accountable
